Rampant ego

All the webcam shots on record, and barely a smile between them. Should prompt me to post again fairly quickly anyway.

Some sort of collective caption is needed here, Lucy.

Smiling isn't your default state, is it? There appears to be a thirty-year age gap between the picture top right (The Boyhood of Raleigh) and the small b/w one immediately below (Terminal Beryl Bainbridge) but the camera clearly lieth. It lieth least in the one below dear Beryl. This is the image I would have come up with had I been asked to substantiate an Identikit based entirely on what you write and how you write. There is authority, barely controlled truculence, eyes like daggers - a sense of the affronted hero. I don't suppose you do but never, never apologise for your glasses.

I didn't know your eyes are such a beautiful blue! For a reason I cannot fathom, I imagined them to be lovely brown, but they are knockout gorgeous blue.

I like this collection of portraits, Lucy. May I offer, at Dick's suggestion above, the following title?

The Many Moods of Lucy Blue.

Well thank you all for your gallantry. I think the phase of webcam self-portraiture has now exhausted itself.

The b/w one looked so terminally dour it rather amused me, I even put a 'film grain' effect on it to enhance it. The diagonal of the fire hood make it particularly arty I reckon.

Glasses or not glasses; in fact the ratio here is fairly accurate these days, as rapidly advancing mid-life alterations in near-vision mean the glasses prescription is interfering more and more with everyday tasks, so reading, eating, knitting and cleaning the dog's ears, for example, are more comfortable without, while watching TV, driving and broadly negotiating my way around the wider world still require I wear them. Using the computer is getting a bit problematical, sometimes with sometimes without, often neither feels quite right.

Typical that I now find I can go about more without specs, having worn them so long that the nice bruised-colour lunette-shaped sunken shadows, which I remember my mum having when she took her glasses off, are thoroughly established, and I will forever look like a glasses-wearer not wearing them, and a fairly peaky and gloomy looking one at that.

In fact I think I do smile quite a lot, but can't really do it to order very well, and seeing myself doing it I instantly become self-conscious and the smile becomes a gargoyle grimace.

Yep, the cross-looking one under the b/w looks most like I feel most of the time, I think.

Yep, that's Lucy alright. Now you know why my hair is turning, ever more rapidly, grey!

She always pulls funny faces in front of a camera. I think it's a DNA thing. Actually, she spends a lot of time smiling, grinning and laughing. Honestly!

I think these are wonderful and funny. Who needs smiles, when you can make others grin?

It must be your mention of Iris Murdoch, but these pictures make me think of her. (The haircut, perhaps?)
